Sometimes Christians can be some of the worst people alive because, more often than not, you can't use reason when beliefs are involved.
A friend of mine has a child; she had her when she was 16. She is now 25 and her child, 9. I recently learned that she used to attend a church quite regularly but once she became pregnant the church council or whomever asked her to leave because of her obvious promiscuity or some such. The pastor told her to still attend and ignore them but the congregation spoke loud enough for her to leave.
Her daughter attends a christian school, which I mean one would assume have more accepting people but that is certainly not the case, as with the church. In grade 1 her kid came home crying because other kids had told her that she was a mistake, and her mommy didn't want her etc... Grade 1 kids aren't capable of knowing about this kinda stuff, so obviously it's parents who talk about it in front of their kids and it trickles down the lines. Now, you can't really stop that, but when my friend goes to pick her daughter up from school, she doens't need to be reminded of her "mistake" and "loose morals" by other mothers picking up their kids, who also let her know that she's too young to be her child's mother.
Damn, if young mother isn't accepted in a church, where the hell else can she go? Maybe she'd have been better off (at least socially) if she justkilled aborted the kid without anyone knowing.
NOW ISN'T THAT MESSED UP???
Where's the jesus love? Where's the unconditional acceptance? Though many christian's claim to be loving and concerned and all that, most of them just seem to bring exclusion and judgement to whole new levels.
What boggles me is the fact the my friend still attends church every once in a while, is actually putting her daughter through christian education and still holds to her faith, sorta. Honestly, this garners more respect from me than most christians because with the way that she's been treated by them, I'd fully understand if she never wanted anything to do with the church ever again. But no, in spite of all this glaring evidence that christianity is full of self-righteous assholes united by "faith", she doesn't abandon her own belief, even wanting to pass it onto her kid.
Man....And here I am, my faith on rocky ground, just cuz some friends of mine are questioning their's.
